Counseling for seniors, families and caregivers

The emotional experience of aging can be different for everyone. As our bodies change we become more dependent on others to help us. We enter a unique phase of life we may resist, fear and not feel prepared for. Aging can also be a time of reflection, reconciliation and self-growth. The therapeutic relationship can provide the support needed to understand oneself and feel less alone.

The benefit of counseling for family members and caregivers is to help with the emotional or physical strain of caring for your loved one. It may be difficult to see your loved one’s health decline and having no control over what to do. Also, the feeling of burn-out when we are in the caregiver role to the extent we loose ourselves. Counseling can help family and caregivers accept the challenges of being support for the seniors in our lives.

As a medical social worker and therapist, most of my experience has been dedicated to caring for the elderly and their families. My fifteen years of working professionally in home health, hospice, and grief and loss services has taught me the need for connection is more important than ever. This transitional time in a person’s life impacts the entire family system. Emotions can be high when there is confusion about how to help. Counseling will help you develop coping skills on how to care for oneself.

I hope to provide you support and insight during this time of your life.
